Living in the Cook Islands
Land in the Cook Islands is customarily owned, and cannot be bought freehold. The maximum lease obtainable by a non-Cook Islander is 60 years.
There is a range of private houses (from 1 to 4 bedrooms) are available for rent on Rarotonga. Weekly rental prices depend on the location and size of the house and ranges from approximately $150 to $450+ per week. In the outer islands, house rentals are substantially lower. The majority of rental properties are either partially, or fully furnished. Rarotonga has a weekly rubbish collection service and bins provided to separate out for recycling. This service may not be available on some outer islands.

Some of the larger organisations in the Cook Islands do provide housing to their staff. Others need to find this in advance of their arrival. Check out the Facebook Group: Rarotonga Holiday Homes short and Long-term rentals.
